During college Kainz worked in many disciplines including ceramics, glass blowing, bronze casting and more, but metals stole her heart.
At Southern Illinois University she completed her BFA specializing in metalsmithing.
Her work in precious metals never quite fit the jewelryscale and once her training in blacksmithing started it was evident that her work would grow in scale.
She shops Montana's scrap yards for materials and her giant collection of carefully selected junk makes the pallet from which she works.
The artist welds the multitude of pieces into amusing and surprisingly elegant creations.
Her work is featured in public and private collections all around the Nation and is represented by several galleries.
The artist continues with the challenge of creating great art while at the same raising her two beautiful girls.
Artist Statement:
I am fascinated with the ways of the past. When gathering metal for use in my sculptures, I seek items, which reveal an interesting past life, unique function or other various beautiful qualities. Line, texture and form are all important to the metal that I hunt for in order to crate the pallet from which I sculpt.
It is a wonderful and daunting task to pull together so many individual items into a mass, which represents one thing.
As with all visions in life it takes a process of organizing and crafting to achieve the end goal. People often ask how long it takes to make a piece. I can only honestly answer that it has taken me my whole life. For me art is a lifelong pursuit and my current work is the culmination of those efforts. It requires gruesome levels of determination, focus and stamina. When I come out of the tunnel of hard work the reward is the joy I feel for the finished product.
It is so pleasing when other people enjoy and experience my little snap shot of what I value and find beautiful in life. That shared experience is why I whole-heartedly value art.
